Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub (Nepali name: Lokta) that grows in the Himalayas. The bark regrows naturally and can be harvested over time without damaging the bush. A sustainable way of harvesting.
Lokta paper production is an old Nepalese skill. Nowadays, production is mainly carried out by illiterate Nepalese women, who are therefore able to support themselves.
