Wooden Buddha Statue

Vitarka-mudra: the gesture of argumentation.

When performing this mudra, Buddha is most often seated in the lotus position. The right hand is raised to the level of the torso, the left hand is held at the level of the hip. For both hands, the tips of the thumb and index finger touch.

This is the gesture that Buddha adopted when he taught the doctrine to his disciples and explained the divine law to them.
