The History of the Stone
The History of the Stone
It takes its name from the Latin "Lapis" which means Stone & "Lazuli" Azure. Used for thousands of years, in ancient Egypt it adorned headdresses and funerary masks as a symbol of wealth hence its presence on the mask of Tutankhamun. It was also used as eye shadow. Later, it was used in powder form in works of art such as "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer or on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
